I heard an ad on the radio today for leg hair removal: "For a summer that's all about me!"
It starts with infants: baby clothing line "It's All About Me."
Scrapbooking: "Deluxe All About Me Scrapbook"
A Google search for "it's all about me" revealed 1,620,000 entries.
How about "I'm lovin' it" (McDonald's) and "Have it your way" (Burger King)?
On Quiznos' Web site: "You deserve the best."
Apparently it's a great way to talk about sexual abstinence: "It's all about you!"
And a Fantasy Sports Network—betcha can't guess the tagline—"It's all about you!"
TimeWarner Cable: "The power of you." What the heck does that mean?
Anyone else done with this?

was sweeping through blogs...you make a very good observation. As Americans, we are narcissistic and arrogant by nature.
we even have weblogs that are all about you...kind of ironic, eh?
Ouch. Very ironic. Actually, I agree intirely. But I'm not shutting it down. It's such a good way to keep in touch. I guess that's how much TimeWarner has influenced me.
here is my response....
If you ask my friend Doug from the Akron Area YMCA how he’s doing, he’s likely to answer “Better than I deserve!” It’s an interesting, catchy way to respond to a common question! I’m sure it creates a few quizzical looks and the occasional conversation where none would have otherwise occurred. But I know Doug, and I know it’s much more than that.
We live in a culture that is increasingly self-centered, fed by a media that exhorts us to acquire bigger houses, bigger cars, and bigger meals. These can “easily” be paid for with no money down mortgages, 84 month car loans and credit cards with huge limits and low monthly payments. Why? Because we “deserve it” and who wouldn’t want what they deserve?
I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I know that I’m a sinful person. And the Apostle Paul wrote in the book of Romans that “the wages of sin is death.” So what do I really deserve? Eternal separation from God. Yikes! How grateful I am that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me. And through faith, we can all receive forgiveness and grace.
So two things. Be willing to extend grace and forgiveness to family, friends and coworkers when they commit an offense against you. It’s a powerful way to show God’s love to the world each and every day. And when you wake up in the morning, thank God that you’re “better than you deserve”.
Hey Emily,
If you want to witness a truly ostentatious display of narcissism...come w/ me to chaperone our Senior Prom...these kids are unbelievable!...the dresses (or lack there of), the makeup, the hairstyles, the limos, etc...Vanity is the word of the evening!
I think we have Oprah and her "Live YOUR best Life" tour - or maybe Joel Osteen with his book "Live YOUR Best Life Now."
