I'm not really an expert when it comes to the tech support side of things, but, alas, I can at least install a new OS, set up the computer and install anti-spyware.
11:15am. Left for my friends' house to try to fix their computer filled with spyware.
11:20. She asked me to stop by Wal-Mart to pick up some CD-Rs to back up her files.
12:20. Finally got to her house. She starting backing up files.
1:15. Tried to back up the video file she really wanted to save. Too big for the CD.
1:30. Started reinstalling Windows XP.
2:00. Continued reinstalling Windows XP.
2:15. Continued reinstalling Windows XP.
2:30. Reinstall finished.
2:45. Finished eating lunch.
3:00. Downloaded and installed Firefox. Installed the add-on parental control ProCon.
3:10. Downloaded and installed ZoneAlarm (firewall).
3:30. Ran Windows update. Tried to install Service Pack 3 four different times to no avail. Still can't figure out why.
Downloaded and installed AVG (antivirus), Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy (antispyware).
4:00. Set up AT&T email account on Outlook Express. Tried to set up Yahoo email account. Discovered that they cannot use a mail client.
4:30. Downloaded and installed iTunes. No sound.
5:00. Realized there was a reason for the driver installation disk. Ran it.
5:30. Sound on. Set up equalizer. Recommended buying new inexpensive speakers with subwoofer.
6:00. Finally finished.
I'm glad this isn't my day job!
