remembering

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Deuteronomy 4:9

Ways I would have never seen God work if He hadn’t taken away my job:

1. Emotional provision—providing a person right when I need it most; or if not, He’s there Himself.
2. Gently reminding me “Do not fear. I will help you.”
3. I was afraid that after my last day of work, I would be alone and forgotten. Hardly! People have been wonderful. The fear was unfounded. It is true that I shouldn’t try to imagine what the next step will be like as it won’t be anything like what I imagine.
4. He has been providing exactly the right length and amount of jobs to get me through until I leave for England, and closed doors which wouldn’t have met those qualifications—even when I wished for something else and had no idea what was coming next.
5. Okay, obviously providing the England opportunity.
6. Finances—it’s been like the 5 loaves and 2 fishes—somehow He’s stretched money and I haven’t had to use savings or even my tax refund. And I’m not even making enough to pay for everything, but yet I must be.

Am I happy I lost my job? No. But remembering this makes me wonder what He has in store, and that’s kind of exciting!

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised. – Job 1:21
… or as it has been recently paraphrased, “You give and take away. My heart will choose to say, ‘Lord, blessed be Your name.’”
